What started as a family project to visit all 67 of Alabama's counties has developed into a passion for promoting small business and the best of Alabama on social media through her page Uncover Alabama. 1. Who is Lauren Price? 

Lauren Price - aka Lauren Kayci on socials. I’m born & raised in Alabama. I grew up in Chilton County and moved to Birmingham for college where I have been ever since. I wear many different hats, but I love it that way. I have a heart for helping people, a passion for adventure, and a love for seeing new places and trying new things. I work full time in the behavioral health field, I’m a fitness trainer and lifeguard, and a mom to Leo, who is 3. I also run Uncover Alabama - a family project turned online series to travel to all 67 counties in Alabama. (We’ve visited 48/67 over the last 2 years.) 

2. How did you begin your social media/influencer journey?

I have always loved traveling, as well as being a tourist in my own city and state. I began sharing my experiences visiting restaurants, shops, and many hidden gems around Birmingham. During Christmas 2023, my mom and I had the idea of traveling to all 67 counties of Alabama and documenting our journey along the way. We hoped to bring eyes to parts of Alabama that many people will never see or even hear about. Over the last two years, it has progressed to include highlighting many small businesses, farms, and the people who run them. 

3. What is your all-time favorite meal?

I am a foodie at heart and love to try new foods, so picking one meal is almost impossible. However, if I had to name one it would be my Nana’s chicken and dumplings. For me, nothing beats a home cooked meal that has been a staple in my life since I was little. 

4. What drives you to promote your community and local products?

I personally think Alabama is underrated in so many ways. Before starting Uncover Alabama, I had never heard of many of the places and towns we have loved visiting. Having new experiences ourselves while also showcasing them for others to enjoy has been a goal for us. Not only does this promote the products and experiences, but also the towns and individuals that make up this state. Hearing that our visits have helped bring new customers to many small businesses is something we are proud of. 

5. Where is your favorite spot in Alabama?

Alabama is one of the most biodiverse states in the country. We have so many incredible landscapes from the mountains in the northeast to the gulf coast, the rivers and lakes, plains and forests. It is hard to pick a favorite! However, I have been visiting Dauphin Island since I was two years old. We went every year (sometimes twice) for many years. It’s known as the sunset capital of Alabama and it has truly earned that reputation. From the white sand beaches to the trails through the maritime forests, it has something for everyone to enjoy. 

6. If you had to pick one of the following to keep, which would you choose and why? Local pumpkin patches, Christmas tree farms or U-pick strawberry farms?  

I would choose U-pick strawberry farms. Farm fresh produce just can’t be beat. Plus the fun of picking it yourself. This is a springtime tradition that we love to do every year.
